Currencies

Every package declares how it is counted. Avails, orders, and settlement all speak that unit.

CurrencyMeaning
spotsUnits per slot or per week, the classic grain
hhHousehold impressions
p2plusPersons 2+ impressions
a25_54, a18_49, ...Standard demo impressions, named by lowercase demo code, with the seller's declared measurement source

The wire values are audience codes, carried on every avail, rate entry, and delivery post that states an impression figure.

Trade currency is a separate axis

Audience currency is what you count: spots, households, a demo. Trade currency is what you pay in: an ISO 4217 code (USD, MXN) declared once per rate-card commit and echoed on every rate entry. An order locks its trade currency with its rates, and totals report gross plus currency. The neutrality posture is the same on both axes: Switchboard carries the money currency the parties trade in; it never converts and never computes FX.

A currency-neutral shell

Switchboard carries currencies; it does not compute or license them. Sellers surface whatever measurement they have the rights to surface (Nielsen, Comscore, big-data sets, their own models), buyers transact in the currencies their own licenses cover, and the platform records which source backed every figure and the measurement stream it was read on (C3, C7, live plus same day). Multiple currencies can coexist on the same package; the guarantee settles in the one the order declares. An impression currency can be bought audience-guaranteed, where the seller stands behind delivery, or as-aired, where you pay for whatever airs; see Guarantees.

Posts: delivery comes back in the same currency

A market only works if results flow. Sellers return delivery (posts) in the declared currency of each order: per unit and per week, source-tagged, attached to the order as a delivery_post artifact. Audience-guaranteed orders reconcile against these posts, and the attached make-good policy fires on shortfall. If you transact in a currency, you get your number back in it.
